SEG Systems’ Commitment to Sustainability
Recycling is more than just throwing used cans into a green bin, it’s a choice that reduces waste and the need for landfills, cuts down on pollution, conserves energy and natural resources and creates job opportunities.
The manufacturing industry has a large toll on the environment, which offers an industry-wide growth opportunity to move towards sustainability. This movement is rooted in the choices and practices of individual companies – and we all can make an impact. Studies show a direct correlation between sustainable business practices and positive business performances with better profitability, stronger financials and happier employees. SEG Systems is committed to reducing our carbon footprint through more sustainable business practices across all parts of our business.
Picture this: every non-recycler generates an average of 4.8 pounds of trash per day, which adds up to 64 full-sized pickup trucks full of trash in one person’s lifetime. Processing this trash releases the same amount of emissions as 545 gallons of gas and 5,300 pounds of coal.
We have the ability to reduce our carbon footprint just by recycling reusable materials instead of throwing them away. For example, recycling aluminum saves over 95% of the energy used to manufacture new aluminum products. In addition to conserving energy, recycling aluminum reduces pollution and conserves natural resources. Aluminum can be recycled indefinitely so it is no surprise that almost 75% of all aluminum ever produced is still in use today.
In the U.S., Clean energy jobs provide earnings 25% above the national median wage, and outpace fossil fuel extraction/generation jobs by three-to-one. Did you know that recycling raw materials in the manufacturing industry alone, it has created over 531,500 new jobs in the U.S. and created 9 new jobs to every 1 landfilling job.
SEG Systems has taken the pledge to implement more sustainable practices through recycling our materials, buying from environmentally friendly vendors and providing our employees with eco-friendly products like re-usable tumblers, water refill stations and responsibly sourced clothing. To date, SEG Systems has recycled 313,950 pounds of aluminum with Custom Recycles. We also recycle 100% of our used cardboard, and paper products utilizing a dedicated dumpster that is recycled weekly.
To advocate for forest conservation and restoration, SEG Systems’ millwork department sources from FSC certified vendors. These distributors are held to high standards to ensure their products are made from eco-friendly practices and materials.
Just like SEG Systems, every manufacturing company has the power to make sustainable decisions to reduce their waste. With the help of the manufacturing community, we all can play a role in restoring our Earth and investing in our planet.
